Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

It took until February to arrive buuuuut...

Trip report so far:

Sonny Sharrock -- Looks and sounds perfect. Worth the 6-month wait
All Things Blue -- Warped, but the playback sounds good. Need to take a closer look to see how many nickels I can stuff under it
Redman -- First record is labeled Side 2 on both sides. 🙃
Billie Holiday -- Holy moley, this album crackles so much you'd think this was a copy from 1956. Here's hoping a good cleaning will fix it...

Also, I was expecting the two "no-number" exclusives (Al Green and Knxwledge) to have no VMP labeling whatsoever so I was happy to see them both have hype stickers. Knxwledge even has the VMP foil stamp on the back, just no number. I already have several other VMP exclusives that are like that. There is no foil stamping on the Al Green jacket.

Spent the day listening to the rest.

Killer Mike - An occasional pop that I hope a good cleaning will resolve. The record is surprisingly quiet, which makes the pops all the more noticeable
Thelonious Monk - Side A sounds great, the second half of Side B is a total disaster. Constant clicks and pops throughout. Ugh. The splatter is so pretty, too
Al Green - Before even spinning it, I looked at it and this nearly gave me a heart attack:

Thought they were some paper fragments at first but nope, that's etched in there. Here's the craziest thing: the record sounds fine. No skipping, no pops... vinyl is weird, man.

Everything else sounds good enough. But Monk, Redman, and possibly All Things Blue and Billie Holiday will need replacements. I try not to be a fussy collector, but this is way too much.

Interesting. The NY Times ranked this the #1 jazz album of 2020. Previously available only on CD, though I'm sure a Blue Note regular variant is forthcoming.

Oooooh nice and I have credit! I saw Immanuel live a few years back as part of Joel Ross' group and he killed it, such fantastic playing.

@NathanRicaud you should remember him?

63 minutes as well!! Hells bells.

Edit: Dug out a photo I took at the gig. Check out that jacket!!!

Just bought it. Had a credit too, and with only 500 copies didn't want it to sell out. Too bad we all have to wait for it until at least May.

Same price as "Member Price" at VMP
