Before Dawn: The Music of Yusef Lateef
The first U.S. vinyl reissue of an obscure and rare album from the jazz legend, we have this on Blue & White Hi-Melt vinyl.www.vinylmeplease.com
Damn! Just used my credit on Omega! And this won't make it to swaps with only 1,000 copies because it will be a preorder until June.Damnnnnn they really are releasing some killer jazz today.
AAA Pressing and first US reissue. Very nice package.
Im lucky enough to have a first UK pressing and have always wondered why more of his albums have not had a proper reissue campaign.

I'm listening to it now online. Love Lateef's wail and honk on tenor more than his flute. Imagining this on AAA vinyl has me sold on it.I take it, it is a good album?
Tinaa'd on the basis it's Yusef Lateef, pressed at RTI & mastered by Ryan Smith for £22 shipped. I honestly, haven't heard a note of this one.
Yeah its an unusual one within his discography though as he sticks to a bop-orientated theme rather than the more Eastern sounds that you typically link him to. Really enjoyable album though, Lateef focuses on the saxophone over a mix of instruments (although he does use a double-reed arghul and flute a couple of times).I take it, it is a good album?

Yes, I remember him Selaws! HE WAS AMAZING!!! I loved his performance so much that night! His saxophone playing was really sexy, vigorous, passionate, moody and robust! I absolutely love this VMP exclusive drop as well as the Yussef Lateef one! Pressing details for both releases look great too!Oooooh nice and I have credit! I saw Immanuel live a few years back as part of Joel Ross' group and he killed it, such fantastic playing.
@NathanRicaud you should remember him?
63 minutes as well!! Hells bells.
Edit: Dug out a photo I took at the gig. Check out that jacket!!!

Yeah, I bit on this as well... first non-subscription store purchase for me since August or Sept I think?Easiestbuy(wait, I'm on No Buy 2021) use of credits in a while and makes me happy I swapped for Credit in my final month with VMP. This was probably my 2nd favourite Jazz album of 2020 after the Ambrose album.
For me, they’re both such incredible jazz releases! And the pressing details for the Yusef Lateef in particular isHmm. On the fence. I have the $15 credit and both jazz releases seem good. But do I want to spend $50 today....I said I'd not buy as much... LarryDavid.gif

I just love these two jazz exclusives! Both are stellar albums and the variants and pressing details for these two releases are great in my opinion!
Choose just one of them then as you have some store credit too! They are both such good releases that I don’t know which one I want to recommend! If you want to go by the sound quality of the pressing, then Yusef Lateef will be the better one as it’s Ryan Smith, AAA and pressed at RTI!Agreed. But I'm running out of space and cash lol. I'm over the 700 mark.
I listened to the preview and thought it sucked. Who was buying that?Quick!!! Don’t miss out on this exclusive! It’s like an even trippier, hazy, dreamy Tame Impala release!
SOLD OUT!
Yeah, I can imagine a lot of people not digging this at all actually!I listened to the preview and thought it sucked. Who was buying that?
I as well was seriously underwhelmed, but that's the joy of music...it's all subjective. Spent my store drop money on some much needed Hendrix for my collection instead. My initial thought on this was "Oh, that guy from Stranger Things has an album", and then I checked it out and thought "Good for him, it's not terrible, but definitely not something I'd listen to".I listened to the preview and thought it sucked. Who was buying that?
