Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

Her label did her dirty - they're the ones that fucked everything and she's the one who gets all the flack.
It was insanity.

This is going to be in thrifts/antique stores for ages as one of those things you know you're going to find whenever you peruse the record section, like Herb Alpert and Tubular Bells.

EDIT: Tying this back to VMP looks like they still are sitting on 38 copies. Actually a lot less than I thought.

I definitely bit too soon. Thought I got a decent price and have definitely seen it for way cheaper since. But I really wanted it and got it for a fair bit below SRP when I did

Hey, ain't criticizing you for getting it.
I ordered 3 Feet High and Rising directly from De La's website and that ended up being like a $30-40 mistake...(not making the same mistake with De La Soul is Dead - preordered from Amazon this time around).

It's just insane how much they flooded the market with this one. Seriously overestimated the demand.

EDIT: I didn't factor in the insane duties I got hit with. Yeah, let's not talk about it anymore.

Pulled the trigger on Dudley. I love that album and it’s been on my “get on vinyl one of these days” list since forever. I’m sure I could find a used copy for like $10 if I looked hard enough but still…

I like Free Jazz, but I’m not sure if it’s worth pulling the trigger on. My wife despises free jazz (the genre) so I can definitely see this one becoming another “Music to Annoy Your Old Lady By” in my collection.

I love how everyone has a section in their collection that's exactly this

“Music to Annoy Your Old Lady By”

Some showstoppers in my section are:

McCoy Tyner - Sahara
Gravediggaz - 6 Feet Deep
Jim Sullivan - UFO
Joe Henderson - Elements
John Coltrane - A Love Supreme
Neal Francis - Changes
Karma - Pharoah Sanders
ANY SUN RA lol
Tallest Man In The World - Wild Hunt

Those are all guaranteed to get me dirty looks from the dining table.

That dudes voice and the hot mastering on that record makes her want to claw her eyes out and flashbang her ear drums. I'm stuck standing in the middle of the living room saying things like:

"But listen to his lyrics, they're so beautiful!"
"Listen to that guitar playing, so serene and calming!"
"Wow, isn't that a pretty melody?"

She doesnt buy it

my dog loves to lay and listen to records with me and the one time I played this, I thought she was going to murder me. Howling at the stereo, running around the room obviously disturbed. Never seen her act like that before or since. Immediately wound up in the trade pile.

My wife, cats and dog all hate/fear Tom Waits. There is a lot of growling at the speakers when I put on one of his records.

Neal Francis - Changes???? Need an explanation of why that is that on this list lol my wife loves that album

All fairness to my wife though - eye rolling, running away and mockery aside, she's very supportive of my "Sun Ra thing."

I've got 17 years in slowly eroding her down, so there are very few things my wife still absolutely isn't fucking with. The Shaggs will never win her over. She hates Nico's voice, but can now deal with Calvin Johnson. There are tiers to it. For example, Squarepusher gets through, but maybe not Venetian snares. There's a progression.

There was a time where she'd tell me she liked something and ask what it was and I'd say, "it's Squarepusher. You hated this."

"I don't hate ALL of it. This song doesn't bother me."

"THIS is the exact song you told me you fucking hated."

"Oh. I like it now."

She told me that she listened to the new DJ Muggs with the Sun Ra samples 5 times yesterday, but she wasn't a huge fan of a song with "squealy horns" at the end. She's an esthetician and actually played it while working. Her client liked it and didn't mind the horns. She didn't like Airto Lindsay's dischordant guitar chops on the first Lounge Lizards album, either, but it doesn't bother her anymore.

This is a woman who thought she hated the Grateful Dead when we first met and now convinces me that we need live albums we probably don't.

She even came around to accept that Season Of Tha Siccness had its merits regardless of the lyrical content and seemed to love Mystic Stylez right out the gate.

I knew we turned a corner when we would get into the car and she'd put on Death Grips ExMilitary or Sleep's Holy Mountain.

"Oh... you like Sleep now."

"I've come around to it."

"Oooh.... Exciting. Did you know this song is about riding a dragon?"

"Stop."

"This one is about Atlantis."

"Please don't ruin this."
