A few weeks ago I got a text saying it was VMP and they were moving to a new number for text alerts and ever since then they’ve been texting me almost every day at all times for random things (pretty much any time I look at a record listing and don’t buy it they’ll text me a few hours later asking if I’ll buy it, etc.)

I think we’re just encountering unintended texts and emails that are a result of having their automated settings being much more aggro than it used to be.

As an aside I also got a member cancellation email… but I didn’t think anything of it because my subscription ended without renewal 😎
 
some more info. paragon series is done after this month. some of the albums they had planned will be future ROTMs instead. This month's release is gonna be the last one in the series though. The Sonidos series is also changing direction and the Barretto Hard Hands drop is paused. Sonidos will continue this summer with a different label (Puerto Rican label).

This really irritates me for some reason. Reminds me of Album Circle using the sub to offload things that weren't selling well for them. It makes me as a consumer feel like a chump even if it's albums I want.

Nothing is being offloaded...just some of the future ones like Carolina Chocolate Drops will be a ROTM instead of part of the series. I believe it actually makes them cheaper especially if you're doing a swap. All the ones that have already gone on sale are staying as store drops.

Store drops that aren't selling well. The contract still needs to be fulfilled. That's exactly what offloading is.

Wow, I’m fucking STOKED. Was just listening to my press last week and thought it’s lacking sound wise. Wonder if it’s a true VMP exclusive or a variant of a larger repress

They aren't doing all of the titles anymore, so pretty sure that's not true about the contract/offloading. I personally don't see how this is anything like Album Circle.

edit: if VMP starts sending Lapsleys in paper bags to people for ROTMs, then we know things are dire.

I wouldn't expect you to. No offense but no one carries more water for VMP since Mr emoji stopped posting than you do around here. And I wasn't saying it meant things were dire there, but it certainly is a way for them to shuffle things that benefits them more than their customers. We already know that you disagree, which is fine, but I'd stake a hefty bet on that being the reason for the change. And that has nothing to do with a paper bag.
