Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

Some random thoughts.

What was the name of this thread changed to? It still just says "[redacted] me please store".

The banning thing without prior warning is oddly reminiscent of one that occurred around this time a few years ago. šŸ¤”

Criticize voldemort as much as you want - they deserve it. Praise them when they get it right (which is becoming more and more rare). Call out bad management, horrible CS, questionable responses, radio silence. Let's not attack someone personally though. Leave weight, appearance, family, mental health, etc out of it.

For those that are waiting for them to get their act together and fix all of the problems, I do have a question. Why do you think *this* screw up, out of the dozens and maybe even hundreds of other screw ups, is the one that is going to make them fix everything? From my perspective, they have messed up a ton, apologized or acknowledged just a few, hardly changed practices to ensure no further eff ups and actually, have added more and more problems on top of the previously unsolved-for-years (and I'm talking 3-4 years) problems. They have zero incentive to fix anything. They have not fixed a thing yet and yet people are still throwing money at them. Until we start impacting their bottom line, they will not fix their issues. I think that is where the frustration with each other comes from. Stop rewarding them for their bad behavior! They are in their offices laughing at their CS queue and all the complaints while also seeing how much money those very same members are spending on their overpriced, non-exclusive, non-QC'ed product. They do not care to change because they don't have to at this point.

Itā€™s just hard to see someone say to others that you must buy hard from VMP when everything is so very very bad in every way.

By all means buy it if you want and I hope it arrives quickly, undamaged, that you get a shipping notice and that you really enjoy it.
Mmmmmm I totally understand where youā€™re coming from now! It is very messy at the moment but I think things can only get better from 2020. I hope so! šŸ¤ž

Iā€™m with @Teeeee on this. There are deep and fundamental underlying weaknesses in how they chose to do business which keep flaring up at least every 4 or 5 months. This might be the worst but itā€™s far from the first and I canā€™t see anything that suggests it will be the last.

At this point willing them to change is depressingly futile, not that it absolves them of criticism or makes the criticism toxic, theyā€™re toxic.

I'd say hounding a VMP person online is fairly toxic. But I get it, people are angry at VMP so that justifies being awful to Storf.

I agree that hounding him isnā€™t right. I have multiple issues with storf but he doesnā€™t deserve to be under siege. That said the anger is justified and his employers lacks of communication has left him hung out to dry. If I was in his situation Iā€™d be equally as fucked off with my boss as with the mob. Also his own behaviour has never helped him.

They are toxic to you though! To me, they are beneficial and and curative!

But yeah, Iā€™m sure there will be many problems in the future that will unfold. Itā€™s just that not many of them are affecting me too much. But it is very frustrating and it is sad to see so much crap happening to people...šŸ˜”

Nothing thatā€™s toxic is about curation. I may have issues with their curation and I donā€™t always agree with it but, despite their shocking lack of gender diversity, I think nothing about that is toxic.

Itā€™s all the other stuff that is toxic! And that stuff matters. It matters a lot. Iā€™m really glad it isnā€™t affecting you but Nathan youā€™ve got to read a room, I like your positivity about the music but the ā€œIā€™m alright Jackā€ attitude about the logistics can be really hard to see when people are really, and justifiably angry at a litany of problems that affecting them in a real way.

Ouch! ā€œA lot of bad things are happening and my friends are getting taken advantage of, but Iā€™m not so itā€™s all goodā€ is a bit... well.... šŸ˜¢

I'll take my question out of the mess of words and put it here so that someone can give a thoughtful answer.

Why do you think *this* screw up, out of the dozens and maybe even hundreds of other screw ups, is the one that is going to make them fix everything?

Because this is the first one that is almost guaranteed to hit their bottom line. Changing your inventory and web platform are no small tasks, and when there's a fuck up and you didn't think to have a contingency or roll back, and you are losing customers, losing orders, losing payment, shipping albums to the wrong people and resorting to giving out freebies and massive refunds for all the trouble the system change caused, it's guaranteed to hit the bottom line.

VMP likely is not a company with a robust P&L - they make healthy amounts of revenue, but I can't imagine the business is all that profitable. They also probably have a delicate balance sheet, and that's why they can't offer a pay-when-it-ships model. Probably a lot of outstanding liabilities + they definitely recently went through a new round of financing/capital injection. They need the upfront cashflows to sustain in the near term.

So, something like what has happened this past month is going to hurt them.

Now, I don't know if this will make them fix everything, because I'm simply not sure they're capable of fixing anything. But this clusterfuck, unlike smaller ones of the past, is more likely than ever to hit their wallets.

I donā€™t mean to come across like that though. And I donā€™t think VMP is taking advantage of anyone, I think they are just in such a mess with the whole migration thing, so peopleā€™s orders arenā€™t getting fulfilled etc

Thank you for the response! Those are some great points. I have a few follow ups but I'm having trouble wording them correctly. I may ask them later but I also don't want to be told to stay out of it or accused of being toxic. So I'm going to sit with this for a bit. But I do really appreciate your response!
