Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

What’s the over/under for them having this big “we’re awesome because we’re bringing back one month subs” announcement after all the euphoric holiday spending dies off and they realize nobody wants three albums for $75+ that are just a different color than albums that can be had for $12 each?

Just leaving this here for "whoever"...................

wait what? did they actually announce this?

I am starting to suspect the backlog problem with cs requests they're supposedly having might be self imposed, with them deliberately allowing them to pile up just so they can avoid the real problem, that they lost part of our order information and the only way to correct it is to send the orders out and wait for us to call back asking for missing items. Then they can make up an excuse, issue a refund, and move on.

I’ve seen that thought floated in here a couple of times, and it very well could be true, but fwiw, around the time he stopped writing the Standard he alluded in one of those to having recently gone through what sounded like a very difficult personal period. Not long after, someone on the forum asked about him and the answer was something along the lines that he was there, and spent time in the office, but was sort of checked out of the day-to-day and had some other projects on his mind.

That's unfortunate. I'm sure he's not regretting being out of range of the current clusterfuck. Whatever the case, it feels like the focus has definitely shifted.

I remember when they randomly moved 1 month subs up to something crazy like $34 or $39, but it only lasted a couple weeks and they changed it back

My level of experience in the financial field stops at watching every episode of Shark Tank.... but isn’t customer retention a very big and very important thing? If during the holidays you’re increasing your orders by like 30% and most of those are newly acquired customers.... and then you straight ignore them, send them the wrong product, don’t send the product at all, and don’t communicate it, I can’t imagine that their retention is going to be that great.
The other thing that has happened with them trying to retain new customers is that when there's a fuck up, new customers seem to get priority over existing customers. There have been a few instances of VMP trying to "make it right" with new customers before they "make it right" with older loyal customers. Outkast was an example of this--instead of stopping signups when stock was out, they kept signing people up and then did a lottery of who gets the copies that were already pressed. But it seemed to me like a hell of a lot of customers who had been with a RHH sub since the beginning had to wait while brand new customers got their copies.

They knew there were issues with inventory and shipping, still decided to relaunch their website without beta testing it during the holidays, THEN had a black friday sale on top of all of that. It seems like they keep kicking the can down the road when some issue comes up and really soon it's going to bite them in the ass. And with only the 3 month as the shortest sub, they are going to need to have a huge release once every 3 months at least to keep people interested and on board.

Glad you like it. Hope you get it.

Meanwhile, I'll be fine over here with that Kindness album that you oh-so-quickly shit on me for enjoying and recommending.

...🙄😬😤
I explained why I didn’t like the album and i did go through the songs I really enjoyed, which were only the three singles leading up to the album’s release! 💡

I still remember how disappointed I was with the first song “Raise Up”. It felt like a take on the rhymic, spiritual, jazzy dance-soul of Nuyorican Soul but it was so flat and drab and lifeless 😶

It really was one of those albums where I was highly anticipating, because of the singles, but when the album came out, everything was pretty disappointing for me 🙅‍♂️

But each to their own, a lot of people on here aren’t feeling Still Woozy at all. But one thing is for sure, that Kindness is still in store and is limited to only 300 copies. Even with 30% off, I guess it wasn’t enough to entice people to purchase it: Still Woozy however, sold out in 20 minutes and had a bigger pressing than Kindness! 😜

which says less About the Quality of the Album than it says what is the current flavor of the month

Ah.
So instead of acknowledging that MAYBE I felt a connection with the album, you doubled down.
And then tried to argue that an artist's sales figures from ONE particularly store are what is important, not the content of the music itself.
You're right. I feel SO much better now.

Sorry, I shouldn’t have said that! It was unclassy for me to say that! It was definitely an easy cop out, comparing the two sales figures. Ego got in the way! 🙈

This is very subjective, but I feel like the VMP exclusive of Kindness album is not selling well in the store because it is a very ‘meh’ project overall 🤥

It’s good you like the album though. If I met someone at work and they were like “I really like Kindness’ latest album”, I would be so intrigued by them and would get so excited to talk about the album! 😇

This is very subjective, but I feel like the VMP exclusive of Kindness album is not selling well in the store because it is a very specific kind of electronic music by a not very well-known artist that, while having a large audience in parts of the world, might be a hard sell to the typical VMP customer base who seem to prefer rock, hip-hop, and whatever falls in the "classics" category.

FIFY ;)

I would also argue that this kind of album is music typically reserved for many of the New York City clubs, particularly in the Village or Brooklyn, that play music that matches or augments the crowding and claustrophobia of the room. When my wife lived in Harlem, every other weekend we would be going SOME place like this, even for an hour.
It reminds me of the first time my wife and I went out to a club a few blocks away from the Barclay Center. It was shoulder to shoulder, yet there were still dancers on the bar and, for some reason, fire. I don't know, maybe albums like this remind me of those times where I was enjoying otherwise anonymous music around completely anonymous people.
That might play into what I like about it: a club feel but without having to worry that my $12 drink won't get spilled or my decent shoes getting stepped upon.

I hate to be "that guy," but can anyone tell me what the link is? I can't open Reddit at work.

...and by the time I get home, there might be another 15 pages of stuff to sift through ;)

There was a shipment update yesterday

UPDATE 12/12/19
Many of you are wondering about the status of your December shipments, and orders placed in the last two weeks. We have continued to run the warehouse on extended shifts during the week, and extra shifts over the weekend, but we are still catching up. We know many of you are hoping to get your orders in time for the holidays and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience these delays may cause. Our entire team is working extended hours and doing everything we can to get your records to you as quickly as possible.

SHIPPING PROGRESS UPDATE
With Black Friday, December renewals, and so many titles that were previously on pre-order coming into stock this month, our orders in December are 20%+ higher than they have been in any previous month. Our warehouse has completed about 60% of the December orders thus far, and is continuing to work overtime until we get the remaining 40% shipped.

ORDER & SHIPMENT BUNDLING
If you’ve been a member for a while and are used to getting all of your items in a single shipment, you may be wondering why you are getting multiple shipments, or why some things have shipped in December, whereas other things haven't. This is because of the way our system has been bundling orders. In prior months, all of your orders would have been bundled into a single shipment. This process is still being refined on our new system and is not yet perfect.
We understand this is not an ideal experience for customers who have bought more than one thing or have subscriptions to several tracks, especially given this time of year. We will be tightening the bundling process up moving forward, and we expect things to be more like the old experience in the coming months.

INVENTORY / SHIPPING TIMELINES
Currently, there are no delayed titles, including titles that were previously delayed in November. This includes:
John Coltrane 'Blue World'
Merle Haggard 'Live From Austin, TX '78’
Waylon Jennings 'Live From Austin, TX '84'
Floating Points 'Crush’
Vince Guaraldi Trio 'A Charlie Brown Christmas (Audiophile Edition)’
Spoon ‘Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga’
Wild Flag ‘Wild Flag’
Sholohmo ‘Bad Vibes’
Black Pumas ‘Black Pumas’
The Rolling Stones ‘Let it Bleed’
TLC ‘Fanmail’, ‘Crazy Sexy Cool’
Beck ‘Hyperspace’ -- This was delayed to January due to the label’s warehouse but there is a chance we receive it in time to ship in December.
Unfortunately, at this time, our customer support team members are unable to offer detailed statuses on orders which are marked “unfulfilled”. Please know that these orders haven’t been lost, and will be packed and shipped out as soon as possible. All tracking information will be sent via email as things leave the warehouse.

This is getting ridiculous.
I don't understand how the new system causing single shipments instead of one mass monthly shipment, but I'm sure that someone with experience in this industry might be able to enlighten me...?
Getting these single boxes randomly reminds me of a friend of mine who, 10 years ago, required a prescription medicine to help him sleep. What ended up happening was he would randomly get packages in the mail that he had NO memory of ordering until he checked his search history and discovered he DID in fact place these orders after the meds kicked in.
I can't even sift through my orders chronologically to figure out what is or is not coming to me, so I am beginning to identify with his now-former predicament.
