Hmmm.

Nothing about this review made me feel like I need to upgrade from my Lintons. That being said, if I had not already owned Lintons then I would 100% save up a bit extra to grab the Super Linton.

At this point in my gear journey I think a speaker upgrade from my Lintons would probably be a big investment and likely aim towards something more in the price range of the Dovedale

I kinda don’t want to spend that much more tbh. Funnily enough I was quite impressed both of the improvements for the money and what Ed seemed to make of them lol. The Super Linton sounds like it could be the end of my speaker journey for the foreseeable and the idea of just swapping the speaker and keeping the stands appeals.

I am wondering if these will play well with vintage tube gear. High efficiency and perhaps competition with, IMO, overpriced Klipsch Herritage.

I’m running the standard Lintons with a tube amplifier, not vintage, and they are fantastic on both triode (approx 25 watts) and ultra linear (approx 45 watts).

At 90dB they are efficient but they aren’t tannoy/klipsch/zu/fyne efficient and I don’t know if I’d be going too much below that in terms of power.

It’s the same with the Wharfedale Dovedale. Whilst I’ve no doubt they’re a step up from the Linton and Super Linton there is definitely a part of the jump in price being a premium for built in Britain versus built in China.

It is nice to see locally built speakers though and I’ve definitely got Fyne on my if I'm ever rich radar!

thank you for the response. As I said in another thread - finding efficient MODERN and (somewhat) AFFORDABLE speakers is difficult these days.

Have you checked out Zu DWX? Also Zu just announced a smaller bookshelf with an 8 inch driver to be releasing soon, I imagine they might fit the bill as well.

100% on my radar!!!! The new bookshelves will be interesting. I am following your DWX thread. Those seem to be what I call monitors vs the size of bookshelves. I am looking at both.

Well the site says they are designed and assembled in the USA which means something is manufactured outside the U.S.

For the Fortes, the enclosure is hand-made in Arkansas, the woofer and midrange drivers are from Eminence (US), the internal wiring is Audioquest (US), the tweeter is from Celestion (UK). I'm guessing significant parts of the crossovers and wiring panel are made in China, but the bulk of the speaker is domestically sourced and the whole thing is assembled in the US.

It’s the labour costs though that make the difference and high quality cabinet making is a pretty sought after skill.
