It’s properly broken in now. For the first few weeks I thought it was very quiet in comparison to the Ortofon and had to crank a bit more. Since hour 20 that’s gone and it’s as loud. What I notice now is a bit more bass thump, the highs are less shrill and it’s much easier to listen to.

They do. For a long while I was sceptical, I don’t trust when lots of people say something is great without any dissent. I accept I was way off the mark, there is no dissent because these things are great value for money!

Herbie Hancock and Foday Musa Suso- Village Life, a nice start to Saturday, Herbie does electronics and Foday plays Kora and talking drum and adds the occasional vocal.

There’s not any dissent, there is a whole segment of people that love that ort sound, hell NOS even argued with me about them being bright (ortofons)... but grado is *chef’s kiss* for me.

Yeah I mean I loved my ort blue on my old amp and I’d never dissuade anyone from upgrading from a red to one, in fact I’d actively encourage it, the blue is a great cartridge. The gear I moved to emphasised it’s weaknesses, it’s a bit detailed which can lead to it being bright and shrill on higher notes. The Grado plays much nicer with it. I’d say both are brilliant cartridges, which punch above their cost, the one you prefer will depend largely on your other gear and your preferences.

I’d give these a slight nod over my Hancock Takin’ Off which is the only 80th I have, they are not as good as the Tone Poets or VMP Ant.
