What's Spinning

Yeah I mean I loved my ort blue on my old amp and I’d never dissuade anyone from upgrading from a red to one, in fact I’d actively encourage it, the blue is a great cartridge. The gear I moved to emphasised it’s weaknesses, it’s a bit detailed which can lead to it being bright and shrill on higher notes. The Grado plays much nicer with it. I’d say both are brilliant cartridges, which punch above their cost, the one you prefer will depend largely on your other gear and your preferences.
The ort was great for classical and I actually listen to classical less with the grado.

I’ll be honest I’m thinking of going down the classical rabbit hole at some point later this year. I love a bit of Wagner and Bach in the background when I’m pottering. I’m not considering vinyl for it. I’m thinking SACD/High Res download/Qobuz high res. I think detail is good for classical and it’s a genre where digital has the potential to really shine.

Classical and Jazz are always early tech adopters. Classical hasn’t really looked back from hi res DDD. It’s probably the right move. The ort was nice for all that orchestral stuff though.
