Another from the Jazz FM Award 2020 'PRS FOR MUSIC UK JAZZ ACT OF THE YEAR' nominee. A fantastic double album from Yazz Ahmed. Superb music throughout and another fantastic package, with amazing artwork, booklet etc.

Yazz Ahmed - A Shoal Of Souls (IXCHEL, 2019 Pressing Limited to 50 Copies)

This is a really special release from Yazz. It wasn't cheap considering its just the 1 track (£20), but luckily I sold a couple of records beforehand. It contains my favourite singe from her, 'A Shoal Of Souls', as well as my favourite artwork on the cover (by the talented Sophie Bass). The 'B' side is etched to match the cover art. Really cool and limited to just 50 copies with the statement that no more would be pressed.

Probably try a best of The Essential Laura Nyro. Eli & The 13th Confession is maybe the easiest album to get into but the two I’ve played are both excellent.

More Than a New Discovery

An overdue reissue of Laura Nyro's debut LP, this album captures the legendary songwriter already in control of her gifts. We have this on Red & Yellow Swirl vinyl.

This is her debut. More commercial than some of her later stuff and has big songs that were hits for other artists. Again I really recommend it and a good price currently from VMP. She has been cited as an influence by Todd Rundgren, Peter Buck, Elton John, Elvis Costello. Her voice can seem a bit sharp and shrill initially but once you buy into it you’re there.

I know our very own @Heath is a fan too, particularly of Gonna Take A Miracle.
