Radiohead - A Moon Shaped Pool (LRSD 2020)

🌑

I'm really impressed with this. The artwork, inners, music, labels. The whole thing is just beautiful and considered.

So did yours sound pretty good? If so I may have just got a bad copy, mine still had quite a bit of distortion and noise to it :/

I got their 2016 edition, also on white vinyl. As far as I can tell from the pictures it seems to look the same way. Is there any difference? Very beautiful, mine also sounds very good. Very sorry to hear yours has distortion @gaporter

I got a white copy back in 2016 as well, it sounds pretty horrible, I took a gamble on the LRSD pressing being better and it arrived and while it's a slight improvement, "Daydreaming" and "Decks Dark" both sound like garbage and there's some noticeable noise on other tracks, mostly when the strings come in I noticed. But maybe I just got unlucky if you both say your copies sound good, who knows

Yes it's always so weird that some copies sound so bad while others don't. I had that problem a few times, also with VMP. Lots of surface sound or skipping on the first copy and none on the next. I guess it's a gamble most of the time. Of course very bad with limited copies as it's hard to exchange them.

Yes and it's the pros and cons of collecting vinyl. When you get a great pressing it's the best thing in the world, but getting a bad one can almost taint your entire feelings on an album 😕

I'm sorry to hear that, mine sounded wonderful so I would reach out for another to see if you can land a better one. I know from the discussions pre-release there's a fairly mixed reception to these white ones so it seems like it might just be pot luck as to what each individual one sounds like?

Look Mexico - This is Animal Music

2000's Emo revival stuff. One of the first ones to do it.

The Chats - High Risk Behavior

Just really good snotty punk rock from Australia. Nothing serious about it in tone. Just young guys singing about how mundane life can be.

I like to add to the Rolling Stones Half Master discussion that my copies of "Voodoo Lounge" and "Bridges to Babylon" both sound very good to me. I'm happy with them. 👍🍻

So here's some more Phoebe Bridgers, with Conor Oberst as
Better Oblivion Community Center, a wonderful album. 💜🎉

Ray Lamontagne- Ouroboros

Someone on the old board insisted I buy this. I love it. Is the rest of his stuff like this? If so, I’ll buy it.

I think Ray's discography is one of the most impressive for a solo artist in the last 20 years. He consistently makes excellent music, but has worked with many different producers, each of which brings out something new in him and alters his sound to fit the individual project. This album was produced by Jim James of MMJ. For me, Ouroboros is a bit down on my list of his faves, but still excellent songwriting with some long, slow jams.

Another of his, Supernova, was produced by Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys. You can hear Dan's influence immediately and the title track is excellent.

My favorite Ray record is God Willin' & the Creek Don't Rise - very alt-country akin to Ryan Adams records with the Cardinals.

His first 3-4 may be his strongest. Then he just released his latest record, Monovision, last week. Seems like he's come full circle back close to his original sound, but I need to give it another listen.
