This version is from the Atlantic Years box set, which I was kind of iffy about since it's digitally sourced, but I spotted a copy for a really nice price on Discogs and pulled the trigger. I have a Rhino version of this record and did a quick compare on the opening of Lonely Woman, and I gotta say, the Rhino version is noticeably better. The drums and bass in particular have more presence and weight. They sound a little recessed in the Atlantic Years version. Overall, this particular version sounds OK, but if you're looking for the absolute final word on sonics, I'd skip it to be totally honest. That said, I'm happy I own these records, they're really important and pretty amazing, and I probably would've spent WAY too much money hunting down high quality AAA resissues or original copies for stuff that I'll only listen to a couple of times at most. So a good purchase, and I'm glad I have a nicer Rhino version of this as well!
Welp, since it's apparently Hill's birthday today (thanks for sharing that @Selaws) I figured I'd spin my King pressing of Point of Departure. I LOVE this record, and love Hill's work in general.
ps, I feel like I should mention that the, uh, "cable uppers" are visible down there in the bottom left corner. I was sent a set to try out for free, and I wouldn't personally spend any money on them.
While not the biggest greatest hits guy I couldn’t say no to this when I saw it as part of the Target 3 for 2 sale. It’s chock full of hits and sound quality is pretty decent!
