What's Spinning

peter gabriel- new blood

studio orchestral versions of gabriel’s songs with vocals. dude still has a great voice, if more weathered and weary, and that is really the primary reason to give this a listen if you’re a fan. the orchestral arrangements don’t really stand out much on their own.

Such an underrated band. I have one of their records but I need to pick up the rest.

this new one is legit fantastic. a little more ‘commercial’ than their earlier albums, which may or may not appeal to some, but when the music is good, it’s good, and this is really good, imo.

mike mogis produced this, so all you saddle creek fans (the label, not the distribution center...) looking for something to listen to might want to give this album a spin.

The Rolling Stones - Sticky Fingers

sooo, confession time - I’ve always enjoyed the Stones but thought of them as a singles band. As in if I grab one or two of their comps then I’ll be all set. With the recent announcement of the half-speed remastered albums I thought I’d jump in and give them a fair shake.

As luck would have it, I ordered the wrong version of Sticky Fimgers on amazon and got a remaster from 2015 instead of the current reissue. And you know what? It sounds fantastic. I’m sure earlier copies sound much better but to me ears, this was $20 well spent.

I will report back when I give Some Girls a spin!
