What's Spinning

Cross post from the challenge thread:

Day 16: “Born in the USA”- records by artists from the ...USA.

John Coltrane - Blue Train (Blue Note, 1957 First US Mono Pressing)

This ties in nicely as yesterday was the 63rd anniversary of the recording of one of the finest jazz albums of all time, Blue Train. I would have loved to have been around New York during Coltrane's heyday, sitting in on his performances. A true American icon!

Elvin Jones - Live At The Village Vanguard (Enja, 1974 First Pressing)

Lots of talk about the amazing Philly Joe Jones tonight, so thought I would introduce @NathanRicaud to another fantastic drummer (unless you have already heard of him, buddy?). This was one of his first recordings after the death of John Coltrane, and its packed with high energy and humour!

No, I haven’t heard of Elvis Jones at all Selaws! Thanks for telling me about him! I love how you said his playing here a strong sense of humour! I’m so keen to check this Elvis Jones album out!

John Coltrane died way too young! I cannot wait to get those Acoustic Sounds reissues of Ballads and A Love Supreme!!!

Thanks again for the tag Selaws! Will definitely be looking into him! 😇

I have a feeling you have already heard him play without even realising. He was a key player in John Coltrane's group and features on both Ballads and A Love Supreme! He's a fantastic musician for sure!
