What's Spinning

Agreed! This one is probably one I play the least, but was just thinking I should really change that.
I play it quite a lot, it has some of my favourite songs in isolation on it. Also I don’t know if you knew this, but the backing singer, who went on to be big in his own right, got one of his earliest breakthroughs on this. He was a certain Mr Luther Vandross!

Also if you have box set 2, the gouster, which was to be released, was pulled, and became this, is really special!

Nice - I knew Vandross was involved but I had no idea he was unknown at the time. Pretty cool

Elvin Jones Live At Ronnie Scotts

Another gem of a cassette. The line-up for this one includes Elvin Jones - Drums, Steve Grossman - Tenor Saxophone, Soprano Saxophone, Roland Prince - Guitar, Milton Suggs - Bass. Interestingly the tape begins with Elvin chatting to the person recording, they obviously know each other as they are talking about the records they sent each over a few months prior, the compere then introduces the group and Elvin has to cut the chat short to introduce himself.

Also worth mentioning that the fantastic saxophonist, Steve Grossman, passed away just a few months ago. There is a really well-written obituary in this months Jazzwise.
