This copy used to belong to the late Art Dudley of Stereophile. His daughter Julia is liquidating his collection on eBay. She even sent a nice note saying Roy Buchanan was one of Art’s favorites.
There’s a weird family connection too- Buchanan’s final resting place is the same cemetery as my mother and grandparents.
If you are looking for some killer guitar slinging from an underrated guitarist, start here.
The other album I bought from Art Dudley’s collection. I was after the first one so this was a bonus I’m not familiar with. Backing him on some tracks are Stanley Clarke on bass and Steve Copper on rhythm guitar.
So far, not bad. There’s a cover of “Green Onions” on side 2 that I’m looking forward to hearing.
I don’t know if I am disappointed or proud that I just caught up on this thread and no one has posted Alice’s Restaurant yet. Happy Thanksgiving everybody.
So the joys of a record cleaning machine , thus eBay purchase from Monday cleaned and sounding wonderful on my new downstairs set up - clamp awaiting for Christmas ... the mighty Van Morrison - only 2 studio albums left on vinyl to get to complete the 68-90 run
Lee Morgan / Thad Jones - Minor Strain (Roulette, 1990 First Pressing)
Picked this one out to post on Instagram in a bit. Its a funny one as its essentially a money-grabbing exercise from Roulette. The Lee Morgan side has (so far) been released as this joint compilation with Thad Jones, a 1963 LP with John Coltrane (The Best Of Birdland: Volume 1) and a 2017 10" release (The Roulette Sides). Rather embarrassingly I have picked up all of them so far. Still, killer session for sure with a fantastic line-up.
