What's Spinning

Muriel Grossmann - Quiet Earth (RR GEMS, 2020 Limited Pressing)

Another superb one from Muriel Grossman. I was really looking forward to her live concert in London's Church Of Sound, which was scheduled for late last year, until it was understandably cancelled due to Covid. Hopefully once all this settles down she will perform over here.

What pressing do you have and what does it sound like?
Love this album & band but for some reason have refrained from buying it believing it would be poop!😁

This is the 2LP edition that Light In The Attic pressed. I had to source it from abroad and it wasn’t cheap (think it ended up about €90 for their versions of this and Turns To Stone). It sounds awesome. I’ve heard really mixed things about the standard pressings though!

#1202-1203

Orchestre Baobab - Bienvenue au Senegal
Kamasi Washington - Becoming

A real oddity courtesy of Superfly Records. I thought I pretty much owned everything of Orchestre Baobab but then they put this up - imagine getting this from the tourist office in the 1970s: 5 of their best songs (although their name is nowhere), some poems, and some ads for Chinese restaurants, airlines and hotels as well just to increase the randomness. A real treat. And a bit of an oddity from Kamasi too - short pieces that veer towards smooth jazz sometimes but still some flashes of his charm.
