Jutta Hipp - At The Hickory House Volume 1 (Blue Note, 1956 First Mono Pressing)

Today would have been the 96th birthday of the pianist Jutta Hipp. I love Hipp's style and I always wish she had the chance to record more. This album is one of the rarer Blue Notes and I was lucky enough to find this first mono copy just over a year ago now.

The Ray Russell Quartet - Spontaneous Event - Live Vol. 1: 1967-69 (Jazz In Britain, 2020 Limited Signed Pressing)

This was like gold dust for quite a while, I was searching daily online with no luck. Jazz In Britain made my day when they posted a handful (I think it was 15) that they had found and had Ray sign. Its a fantastic album with some really great music.

Franz Ferdinand "Always ascending"

View attachment 82438
My first ever gig was Franz Ferdinand live in Manchester.

My arm had just healed from a break during a game of British Bulldogs (I'm sure there are other names for it, it essentially consisted of a row of schoolboys at one end and a handful in the middle. The row would have to run to the other side without being taken down by those in the middle. If they were taken down they would then be in the middle as well and it was the last person running that won). I crowd surfed to the front where a burly security guard pulled me headfirst to the floor and I rebroke it, although I didn't realise until the next morning.

Great memories.
