What's Spinning

Hahaha! That reminds me of the punk gigs I used to go to at the Student Union when I was in uni in Manchester. Table of Red Stripe at the side of the crowd. Red Stripe really is terrible beer 😂

I’ve only seen them at that gig and at Glastonbury in 2003 towards the end of that album cycle. They were pretty jaded at that one and not as good to be honest.
They’ve really changed over the years. A lot mellower. Still, worth checking out if they’re playing nearby I’d say.

WOW. I am seriously blown away by how good this album sounds. This might be a big claim but I honestly think it might just be the best sound record that I have ever had from VMP. I have been holding off on getting a copy of this for years as I wanted to make sure I got the best sounding one, and im certainly happy I waited.

Ondatropica
Cumbias y Gaitas Famosas Vol 2

Two wonderful Colombian records, present and past. Ondatropica probably should have made my all-time top 50. It's sometimes described as the Colombian Buena Vista, but I think it's much better than that. It takes some of the old school musicians (eg Fruko, Michi Sarmiento), some newer ones and binds it together with Frente Cumbiero and Quantic. It's really magical stuff at times, including a rap from Ana Tijoux, some beatboxing, and a Black Sabbath cover but mostly just fantastic, upbeat, sunny Colombian music. Just as there's plenty on the Discos Fuentes compilation from the 60s.

I'm waiting on Ondatrópica in the mail! A friend recommended it and based on the first song and a half I pulled the trigger on one of the last copies of their current run on bandcamp. I've decided to wait until it's here to listen to the rest, and I'm looking very forward to it!
