Tina Brooks – True Blue (Blue Note, 1989 Japanese Pressing)
Following on from Grant Green, tomorrow would have been Tina Brooks' birthday. Im lucky enough to have the Complete Blue Note Recordings of Tina Brooks Mosaic box set which is fantastic, but I do think I prefer the Japanese pressing of this killer album.
Really dig this soul album from Numero (think it was pitched as some kind of black Astral Weeks but it's not quite that), and a new disc of sweet Poly-Rythmo sounds.
Sonny Rollins - Way Out West (Contemporary Records, 1958 First UK Mono Pressing)
I managed to get this at a good price the other week because of the damage to the cover. The record itself is in super good shape without any pops or surface noise. And what a fantastic pressing it is! I have the Way Out West Deluxe box from Craft and while I like the extra LP with alternative takes, I do potentially think this first UK pressing packs more of a punch.
