Tina Brooks - The Complete Blue Note Recordings Of The Tina Brooks Quintets (Mosaic, 1985 First Limited Box Set)
Today would have been saxophonist Tina Brooks' 89th birthday. Its a crying shame how little of his music was released during his lifetime, but luckily Mosiac compiled all of his Blue Note recordings as lead and released them in this killer box set.
Miles Davis - Porgy And Bess (Fontana/Columbia, 1959 First UK Pressing)
This one never seems to get the same recognition as others in Davis' discogrpahy. I have to admit that it isn't my favourite, but I still really enjoy it.
Lester Young With The Oscar Peterson Trio - S/T (Columbia, 1955 First UK 10" Pressing)
I actually now have 2 copies of this, one of which is a sample pressing that used to be owned by producer Tony Hall. The sleeve on this recent pick up is battered to hell but the record could not be cleaner, fantastic sound throughout.....which is just crazy lucky!!
Using my time off to catch up on some fresher grabs to prep for the big collection play through. Found this for $7 at the flea market and my rule is if I see Joni I wing it. Really enjoying it, great jazzy/softer feel
