008 - Whitney Houston - Whitney Houston
009 - Whitney Houston - Whitney
010 - Amy Winehouse - At The BBC
I am sure there are either legal reasons or other ones for this, but I am kind of flummoxed that her first two albums have not been re-pressed in the vinyl resurgence. I am sure part of it is her death happening before it came back as a format, but the songs still hold up as top tier pop music. Both of these releases represent some of my favorite aspects of those late-80s/early-90s records: they sound exceptional for non-audiophile pressings developed for a pop market. Seven #1 singles and another Top 5 single over two albums makes for a thoroughly riveting play from a singer who was, at least for a time, incomparable. These represent a great reason behind why I love collecting as I really didn't get into Whitney before spinning these.
I am also trying to sprinkle in some fresh grabs. I am unsure to how essential this really is with all the Winehouse live material out there and at 3LP it is a lot, but it feels like a set done right for someone who is looking for a live Winehouse compendium, nice tip on sleeve and trifold. It did feel a bit on theme with Whitney too.
I may switch over to some newer gets soon and then resume this reverse first name alphabet order but...I dunno, it's been quite fun so far.
