The Collection Playthrough
047 - Lucy Dacus - Home Video
What a homerun. She's been a personal fave for about five years at this point but the new album, with what I think is a stronger, more concise focus really brings her evocative story telling out. Album of the Year 2021 candidate.
048 - Walk The Line OST
Man...I feel bad saying this but it just didn't click as a soundtrack. It works in the film but I generally just wanted to throw on Cash instead on the listen. Really good sound as a Craft pressing.
049 - Whitney Houston - I Wish You Love: More From The Bodyguard
This one was kind of a surprise. Whitney after the S/T and the...uh...other S/T can get tough on vinyl. The Bodyguard Soundtrack on vinyl is a tough grab in the U.S. between the transition to CD as the dominant format and most of the copies being overseas, and for my money, a lot of her essential "post-prime" (I guess?) songs were on that OST. In steps this set. You get five of the six film version songs and I'm Every Woman, the one missing film version, has both live and club edits to fill in. Sides C/D is basically a live performance of the six soundtrack songs she had. A great budget-friendly option.
050 - Tomberlin - At Weddings
Halfway through the first century is Tomberlin. Perfectly fine indie songwriter with a very specific...mood to her music. Reminds me a bit of a Julien Baker or Julia Holter, in different ways. I think this was a Deep Discount pickup and a nice play for a cloudy day.
051 - Ellie Goulding - Halcyon
Such an uneven album. The singles are bangers pretty much throughout and the rest of the album just doesn’t quite make it there. With that said, it does have four or five really strong pop songs and Anything Could Happen probably should've been a mega hit for her over other songs she put out.
052- Mama Béa – Aux Alentours D'Après Minuit
Part of the monthly challenge, don't understand a darn word but has that nice 70's female led rock edge to it which works in any language.
