What's Spinning

Well the big post I had got eaten so here we go again

The Collection Playthrough Catchup Continued

095 - Josie and the Pussycats OST
096 - Joseph - The Trio Sessions Vol. 2
097 - Kip Moore - Live From Grimey's Nashville
098 - Lake Street Dive - Lake Street Dive / Fun Machine

Interesting quad cube on this one. The Josie w/ Dujour bonus is a top flight poppy soundtrack listen - it still feels pretty fresh for a movie that was of the TRL era. Kip Moore was a similar surprise to me: I ordered it on a whim signed from Grimey's but really dug the listen. 4 songs at 45 RPM all recorded and mastered well from a live source and he really does have a good voice, as promised here.

On the other hand, the Joseph and LSD were two albums I was really looking forward too that just didn't work for me. Lee Newman mentioned it in the Magnolia thread, but the Joseph release has a lot of screamy portions that border on unpleasant, especially for the type of album it is. Conversely, the LSD debut could REALLY use some of that volume. The self-titled is one of the quietest records I own and even boosting the speaker volume doesn't do a ton for it. The Fun Machine covers are better but still not there. They're not big enough of a group to really remaster that release but if they do, I'll be looking.

099 - LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver
100 - Leon Russell - Leon Russell
101 - Lizzo - Cuz I Love You
102 - The New Pornographers - Together

I wish I liked LCD Soundsystem's music more, because their pressings sound SO dang good. Ugh. Like, I think I need to give SoS another run or two before I decide whether to sell it because the sounds really fill the room and it should be something I really dig...like the Lizzo. The Lizzo release had some mixed reviews pressing wise, and I think I got lucky, because this sounds on the higher end of what I usually expect from pop - full, large scale sonics that just hit you in the face Finally, the New Pornographers release is one of those that is becoming a bit iffier to find but can still be gotten reasonably, and it's my favorite effort of theirs. Great listen.
