What's Spinning

The Collection Playthrough:

130 - T Bone Burnett* – The Talking Animals

This was a blind dollar buy - I figure he's a great producer and I hadn't seen one of his in the wild so why not for a buck? It was...fine. His skill is definitely in production for my tastes but it was a fun little excursion

131 - Stars - Laguardia

Props to Stars for putting out a retail priced Greatest Hits album when all of their other vinyl is stupid pricy. I didn't experience the noise the Discogs reviewers did and while you're not getting stunning audiophile quality (and I'd love to hear Dead Hearts in that way), this is one of those "good " GH albums that includes nearly everything I'd want without me needing to drop hundreds for their discoraphy.

OK, it's Stevie and Steely time and until I am through this stack nothing else is getting cleaned so let's go. I'm excited for this pairing because they're both artists I've heard a lot about and have numerous records of but I've never really deep diven on too much. My Stevie copies generally look pretty roughed up on the outside and clean on the inside, so I'm hoping they all do play well as my memory serves (for the ones I've played at least).

132 - Stevie Wonder - Someday At Christmas
133- Stevie Wonder - Talking Book

Someday at Christmas is my earliest Stevie release (though it is the 1982 re-do), and...yeah it's Christmas + Stevie + Other People's Songs. However, the GF is out who would mock me for Christmas in August so it comes first.

Inn terms of Stevie, my familiarity was mostly with the hits, so Talking Book immediately threw me for a loop - not so much the big hits to lead off each side but the inner tracks where we had other vocalists and collaboration. I feel like other albums take up a lot of the limited air we all have to talk about Stevie but this one really impressed me even if it's not quite as ambitious as later offerings, it's still world's beyond a lot of his peers. Somehow it still sounds fresh today which is nuts as well. The copy does have a bit of a repeat at the very end but literally anywhere else would be worse so...that's all good with me.

I listened to 'Set Yourself On Fire' for the first time the other day. I don't know how they passed me by for this long. And yeah, I found out real quick how it's not easy to get anything on vinyl for a decent price.
