Carnival - Spicy Flavours & Exotic Grooves Set Fire To Blue Note (Blue Note, 2002 First Pressing)
It would have been the Notting Hill Carnival earlier this week and seeing as it was cancelled I decided to dig this out instead. A really eclectic mix of Latin stars, jazz legends, and Indian musicians....and on Blue Note!!!
These were both "bargain" pickups of early/original pressings recently that I wanted to clean and give a run to. Loved the VU play, that had some really good energy without many issues on the play side. I don't think I've ever done a proper VU deep dive but that's going to be added to the work streaming list.
The Van Morrison was totally different than what I expected. He really went all for it on this one huh? What a departure from his other stuff, at least that I've listened to. My copy had some popping issues on Side B but otherwise held up pretty well for a 50+ year old copy.
I wasn’t aware that this record existed until The Ocean Blue shared a photo from a fan on their stories. Headed to the ‘ol Discogs and snatched up a copy. 4 songs from The Mighty Lemon Drops on side A and 2 each from The Ocean Blue & John Wesley Harding on side B.
