What's Spinning

The Collection Playthrough

So, that last Shovels and Rope took ages to get through. Jeez.

Anyway, before hopping to the Zooey and Sara(h)s of the world, I thought it'd be a good opportunity to clean and play some newer grabs that have been waiting towards the end of the alphabet, especially as my "keep these in the kitchen to clean" stash is getting a tad unwieldy.

160 - Yellowman - Mister Yellowman

This was one of about six pickups I grabbed at a local store which took in a decent sized Reggae haul. There's a severe lack of Reggae/Dancehall in my collection so it felt like the right opportunity to pick up some Reggae and give it a run. This one appears to be an early or original pressing from the early 80s in pretty decent shape, especially after a cleaning. Very excited to give it a run, and the others a try soonish.

Ok, this sounds so good. What a cool damn vibe.

161 - Passion Pit - Manners

I had been holding out for a while hoping for a new run to come out or something and finally it appeared on Rarewaves, and they actually shipped it for once. Like, I have a not-so-fun headache today and I still had to spin it. One of my favorite 2010 albums all things considered and a real beacon of that little electro-pop/indie wave we had for a while there. Blasting it as much as my head can stand.

This is the transparent blue repress from a couple years ago and it's hard to know how the AP pressing could improve on it's sound quality cause this is a great pressing, but if anyone's done an A/B comparison I'd love to hear about it.
I got the AP 45 recently and it's incredible. Don't have this one to compare to though

163 - Funkadelic - Maggot Brain

This might be the most beat up record I own, but man, it's still Funkadelic and it still slays. Plus, given I can't bring myself to pay the yuge prices for well conditioned originals, this kind of meets the happy medium. It will probably continue to rock out after I am buried six feet deep at this rate. Sounds amazing on the good parts and on the bad parts... Well let's just say it's lived some lives.
