What's Spinning

Spiritbox - Eternal Blue (2021)

I've been struggling to get into new music and listen to new bands lately, just with my mental health being out of wack... This band fixed that. I discovered this band 5 days ago. Since then, I've bought both of their releases on vinyl, recommended them to all of my friends, and bought tickets to see them in March (opening for Underoath). Incredible melodic metalcore with a kickass woman singer. Seriously, if you like heavy metal, and you haven't listened to these guys yet, so fix that. Best new band I've heard in a long time 🤘

A Beginner's Mind

Finally picked this up and while I'm liking it, about half way through side A it has these very high pitched crackles and pops. They sound different than the typical pops, in that these hit a higher register and actually hurt my ears. Even after cleaning they're there, so wonder if it's just a defect in mine. Rest of the album sounds good.

Zoot Sims - Zoot At Ronnie Scott's (Fontana, 1962 First Mono Pressing)

Yesterday would have been Zoot Sims' birthday so I have been listening to this fantastic live album to commemorate the day. Interestingly the album is important for another reason, it was recorded when Zoot came over to England and he was the first American musician to be able to do so in decades as there was an international bad at the time. Ronnie Scott and Pete King (owners of Ronnie Scott's Club) petitioned for a 'swap' system which the UK and US authorities unexpectedly agreed to. So Zoot came over first and this recording is the result.
