My philistine take. Not saying the criticisms don't have merit, and my ears are probably more f'ed than many of yours, but you all had me expecting hot garbage and it's not that to me. It's definitely a bit muted and muddier than I'd like, no doubt, but nowhere near the worst that I've gotten. I listened to the Apple streaming lossless version before this one and that one sounds digital and a little cold despite having better separation. This one is a bit warmer and sounds like it's time, which isn't entirely bad to me as it has a retro-futuristic veneer that fits a mood. No static on either side. Still a jam. The bonus disc is great. Overall I'm happy enough with this one unless/until something better comes along and I'll still probably play it over streaming despite the streaming getting a narrow edge in terms of which sounds better at the end of the day.

good to read. i've been eyeing this knowing full well it'll probably not be great. but i feel like it still should be better than my old 4mwb copy from the mid 00s.
