Westbound reissue (2022)

Had $15 off at my local, so gave this a go against my better judgement. It is not good. Somehow worse than my random 2006 reissue. That pressing has some distortion on the highs, but this one has rolled off highs and no low end. Is that the sad face eq curve?

Lots of random pops and ticks from micro-scratches, too. The bonus disc is actually great, as is the gatefold. Might have make my own copy by swapping this disc for the 2006.

I've only spun the first two tracks as a sample since I am doing a true run of the A-Z collection playthrough without any jumps ahead for fresh grabs, but the mastering is jaw-dropping. Has to be up there with AP quality.

Yep, this and the recent Arthur Russell reissue (which I think you have too?) are easily up there with AP presses, which is amazing considering it’s doubtful AP/Mofi will ever touch this music.

That’s crazy that you’re not playing your fresh grabs - aren’t you worried about pressing defects? I always have to test them out at least once to make sure nothing’s wrong.
