Peggy Lee – Black Coffee (Ace Of Hearts/Decca, 1961 UK Mono Pressing)

2 very different albums but both enjoyable in their own way. Funnily enough though I'm not particularly drawn to either regularly and have to be in the right mood for it. The Tubby Hayes was his final release before his early death and it's just a sell-out session, covers of pop songs that the jazz world shunned. The Peggy Lee was a carboot find last year (only cost a quid) and there are a couple of really nice tracks on here, despite the fact that I'm not a huge fan of vocal jazz.

Neat comp of 1960s North Carolina bands that mostly never recorded more than a few singles. Highlight is probably the first ever recording of James Taylor with his brother's band the Corsayers.
