What's Spinning

I think you'd like it, he has a couple of reissues through Soul Jazz records over the last few years, they are all very good. Steve Reid (2)
Here's a taste.

Video shows as unavailable for me - but I'm gonna track something down once my final side for the night stops spinning and I make the switch to digital for the remainder of the evening. I feel like I see his name far too frequently to not check him out, so I'm gonna set out to remedy that before I dig into this week's new releases!

Thad Jones, Frank Wess, Teddy Charles, Mal Waldron, Doug Watkins & Elvin Jones - Olio (Prestige/Esquire, 1957 First UK Mono Pressing)
The Oscar Peterson Trio - Eloquence: Live At The Tivoli Gardens, Copenhagen (Mercury, 1965 First UK Pressing)
BBC Transcription Disc - The William Russo Orchestra (BBC Transcription Disc, 1965 First Pressing)

A non-connected mix to start the day. The Olio is just killer, so so good and such a fantastic line-up of musicians. The Peterson is one that has a bit of a connection as I recently visited Copenhagen for the first time and went to the Tivoli Gardens. Finally, a fantastic BBC Transcription disc that was meant to have been destroyed in 1968 but survived. Russo introduces each track and the soloists, with the British Baritone saxophonist Ronnie Ross being a stand-out.

Michael Garrick Quartet - Kronos (HEP Records, 1983 First Pressing)
Michael Garrick And Shake Keane - Rising Stars (Trunk Records, 2011 First Pressing)

Both of these are actually sessions that occurred significantly before the albums were actually released, with Kronos being recorded in 1959/1960 and Rising Stars being recorded in 1964. The tracks are hit and miss in my opinions, with some fantastic numbers being followed up by some that sound dated. Still, a great couple of affordable records!
