What's Spinning

@Joe Mac, while I absolutely love Van the Man’s music output, clear back to the Them days, I find it difficult to separate the music from his modern views on the politics of mankind. Same with Clapton. Being a fellow Irishman, if I’m not mistaken, how do you parse this conundrum? If this is not the place to talk about it, please forgive me for bringing it up.

For a start I can’t put him in the same bracket as Clapton. He’s a nasty piece of work who has done and said some very very bad things.

Van Morrison is a grumpy shit. But then he’s always been a grumpy shit. I have issues with him hanging about with members of the DUP but given what he’s said on the record had mainly been anti pandemic restrictions stuff I’d be emptying out a lot more than him on that basis, as much as I disagree with the position.

I suppose a lot it comes down to attempting to separate the art from the artist to a degree because otherwise we lose Led Zeppelin (Jimmy Page’s underage girlfriends), Lennon (wife beater) and so so many more.

The only one I really have a huge problem with, and kinda feel green when I see it posted here, is Michael Jackson who was clearly a dangerous and predatory peadophile.
Yeah, Van’s a grumpy old dude and that’s basically it. Even his pandemic rhetoric wasn’t sensational as much as it was selfish… I can’t work, These rules are dumb, let me work.

Clapton is a piece of shit but I still listen to him from time to time. MJ I don’t play anymore but enjoy and don’t turn off when it comes on.

Well posited and thank you for thoughts.

Love the Corbin Carroll bobblehead!
He had a brief stint with the Hillsboro Hops, our local High A Diamondbacks affiliate. Been pulling for him ever since!

Wilco - Cousin

I tend to say every Wilco album since Schmilco is better than the one before. I also tend not to revisit them much (Cruel Country has the received most attention of anything since A Ghost is Born). That being said, this reminds me of becoming a huge fan between Being There and Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. Like they were my favorite working band (had toppled Flaming Lips) until I fell in love with Punch Brothers.

Led Zeppelin - IV

Looks like it’s the same master as last time JP remaster JD lacquers. Pressed at optimal. It’s flattish, no surface noise what so ever. Definitely not very compressed at all based on VU activity. I wouldn’t call it anemic, but I do think my old school cd beats it. No way to a-b right now. I’m not mad about it either way. Definitely sounds decent for an affordable copy.

Headphone listen… soundstage is CRAZY. This is the fourth time I’ve listened to this new remaster today and I am hearing shit I have never heard before. The imaging is bananas. There is shit firing everywhere, Thunder was actually a little unnerving. The treble is rolled off a bit even from the CD version of this master. Will check back in a bit.
