Lia Kohl - Normal Sounds

20241019_145409.jpg

One of my favorites of the year. The fusion of everyday sounds found in society (floodlight buzzing, car alarms, airplane/airport chatter, quiet footsteps) with cello, electroacoustic droning, and delayed synthesizers is introspective and strikes deep. These normally innocuous sounds resonate differently and are provided new context, but never feeling overwhelming like in the space they may often exist individually. In that way, these sounds aren't just a mutually exclusive stressful quantity.
I'm elated that local label Moon Glyph exists each and every day.
