What's Spinning

Classic Records 200gm. True confession: This album at really righteous spls used to invigorate and energize me to the max when it was originally released in ‘72. Go climb a mountain. These days, same appropriate levels, it reminds me to be really happy to have those memories. Don’t get old.
The sound of cocaine permeates the grooves, much in the way Jeff Beck’s Blow By Blow and Wired do, with such wild and unfettered playing. Pedal to the metal, man. Good times.
If you have a copy of this play the last song on side 2, “We Are Not Helpless” sounds like it could have been recorded today, perfectly attuned to the country’s need.

Man, should I know the Doves? I do love the bird.

Probably not! They’re a late 90s/early 00s indie band from Manchester. They emerged out of a techno group from the early 90s. They sorta specialised in big soaring indie music and were brilliant live. They’re back together now and making decent music again but nothing that has quite captured the magic of the first two albums and the singles off the third. They have a sorta cult following amongst a very small group of former members.
