What's Spinning

Miles Davis & John Coltrane - The Final Tour: Paris, March 21, 1960 (Columbia, 2019 VMP Classics pressing)

My favourite Classics to date. This recording is such an important document in the Coltrane/Davis discography. Their final tour together and the last time they would play as the Miles Davis Quartet. Coltrane was so annoyed to be there that he would reportedly play hour long solos at gigs where they were only supposed to be playing 40 minute sets in total. He would also incorporate erratic and long solos unexpectedly causing the audience to whistle (local way of booing). Must have been an absolute blast to be there.

Milt Jackson & John Coltrane - Bags & Trane (Atlantic, 2016 Mono Years Box Set)

Damn good session. Originally marketed as a Milt Jackson album but over the years as Coltranes reputation grew the subsequent reissues were always marketed as a lead for Coltrane with guest, Milt Jackson.

My albums of 2019

14. The Murder Capital - When I Have Fears

This has been a vintage year for Irish music. From my AoTM to folk to punk/post-punk.

This is a beautiful heartbreaking post punk album full of emotion. Just about edges our Fontaines DC. Two great bands though!

The agutierrezb 2019 record collection challenge

So I've decided to embark on my own personal challenge, which consists of listening every record in my collection before the end of the year. My record collection is not that big -only ~250-, but I still feel like there are a bunch of records I don't give enough attention to, while still adding more titles to my shelves.

For this reason I've set a couple of rules in order to play every record at least once before December 31st: I'll play at least one record a day, going from front to back in the way I have them sorted in my shelf. I can play a different record (i.e. Not the next one in alphabetical order) if I feel like listening to something else in any given moment, but at least one of the records I spin in the day has to be the LP in turn.

I didn't take pictures for the first two days, but I'll try to document the process from here on, so I'll be posting daily on this thread. Wish me luck!

A spiritual jazz masterpiece and a great Pure Pleasure reissue. I love the writing and the choir on this record.
