what did you hear in that Beirut album that really resonated? really wanted to like it, but it just didn't click for me.

I really liked how sleepy it is actually. I think it's better than Gallipoli (which I really liked a lot). Not many of the songs are super catchy, but they just feel comfy. "So Many Plans" is one of his best songs, along with "Stokmarknes", "Süddeutsches Ton-Bild-Studio" and "Hadsel" all have little melodies that I kept coming back to. "Melbu" which is just a little interlude feels like a perfect little respite reminiscent of "Motion Picture Soundtrack" by Radiohead. I also think it being released in November helps it a lot because it feels like a fall album. There's no way I'd be returning as much had this come out in like June or July.

I keep returning to Sigur Ros' Atta for the same reasons as well. It's just a comfy album. That one doesn't have very strong crescendos or melodies that Sigur Ros is known for with other albums. It has the Sigur Ros blueprint under more beatless ambient. It rewards with return visits.

ÁTTA is Sigur Rós most urgent and minimalistic album but like you've mentioned there's something comforting about it. I also find the album to be quite sad 😢 maybe because it came out in around the same time my Dad passed away and I associate it to his death 🤷 but nevertheless there's tremendous beauty 😍 on the album and every time I listen to it I feel at peace 🕊️

'Bout damn time I see Gorillaz on ANY best of the year list. I thought the brilliance of Cracker Island was something I must have experienced as some recurring dream or that I was living in some alternate reality. It will feature very prominently on my list when I get around to putting it all together. Still waiting for a few records to come in and give a hearing to. Anyway, most of y'all are sleeping!

It really is a good album with some of my favorite all-time Gorillaz songs on it. Silent Running is such a jam. Ballad of Darren is probably a little more consistent overall this year Damon-wise, but they are both great.

Silent Running is an all-time banger.

I thought Cracker Island got the 2D/Damon to guest-star balance better than any Gorillaz album since Demon Days.

Not surprised by Isbell, but surprised (and stoked!) to see Angel that high. Also expected Adjuah to maybe be a bit higher, but looking at who is in-between makes sense to me.

Dawid challenged me while entertaining me was the ultimate placing. Durand should have fired his engineer and re-recorded, should have been AOTY but I can’t get over how awful it sounds.
