Neverending Covid-19 Coronavirus

I consider myself lucky to have it's own healthcare exchange. If you are unemployed, you can get free health insurance with no copays or deductibles paid for by the state.

Many, and by many I mean most states don't have this option. Many Red states have no individual plans available on the Obama Care exchange because insurance companies have pulled out. Those Red States cut the expanded medicare benefits that were part of Obama Care.

This has resulted in people who have been furloughed having to get COBRA to keep their health insurance while their employment has been severed. For a family of 4 that is more than $3,000 a month! Compare that to $150 a month under their employer.

How can they afford that health insurance? It's prohibitively high but if they don't have it and get hospitalized by COVID-19 they would be financially ruined.

They are finding if you are one of the 20% that end up in the ICU the average stay is going to be 12 to 14 days. That's going to cost hundreds of thousands of dollars.

My state is a fucking joke. At the very least, from what I've seen from Andy Beshear, he is doing his best to reassure people. Although it is telling that when you go to Google his name, one of the top auto fill results is "Andy Beshear on guns." Really tells you all you need to know about the headspace of a lot of people in this state.
 
wife is currently in queue to be tested for Covid, she started feeling sick on Monday after contact with multiple coworkers who have since tested positive at the hospital she's at. she's also been in self quarantine in our house since Monday... I don't think she's ever been so grateful to leave the house, even if it's for a Covid test.

hopefully the results don't take as long as getting the test appointment. it's been a weird few days.

honestly, if she has it her case seems to be pretty mild. she's been saying that she doesn't feel good but that she's felt much worse dealing with other things. so to a degree we are kind of hoping she does have it so the self quarantine hasn't been for nothing, because being separated from the family has been the worst part for her.
