Verge = verve?Got an email from Verge about a record club they're doing. No idea on pricing but this feels like a weird thing nobody asked for.

It just doesn't make any sense to me. Who is paying a premium for "limited to 2500" copies of shit like Coltrane and Evans records? There are a billion pressings out there. At least try something like the Blue Note boxes where they're throwing in archival stuff or unreleased material. I think I paid $12 for an OJC stamper re-press of Coltrane and Verve are asking $50 for something that'll likely sound exactly the same but come in a better jacket. The "sign-up" page isn't actually to sub, just to make sure you're on their mailing list for when they do launch.

I am all for quality represses of verve’s catalog and can understand why a club might be inticing. I’m not sure that I trust Verve to do that through.Yeah, that ducking autocorrect
Coltrane was a bad place to start. I’d rather less clubs like the crazy priced blue note thing. It just doesn't make any sense to me. For sure. My point is just that like....this is basically Atlantic 75 with a subscription model and shorter print runs....but unlike Atlantic 75, there are already a billion good pressings of the shit they've announced lol. It just feels like some higher up asked for a subscription service more than it feels like any labor of love.Coltrane was a bad place to start. I don’t know what this is but I WANT IT.View attachment 218106

Actually they don’t say all analog, It says mastered from the original tapes.I was doing a quick c/p of a bunch of the info but they're aiming for all-analog remasters by RKS from the original tapes for every release, so the idea is that they will sound better.
Execution of the idea? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
They're definitely aiming for the crowd that wants more than the $12 OJC repress. There's nothing wrong with being happy with that, but they're betting there's an audience of 2500 that want more. I suspect it's a pretty good bet with jazz collectorsColtrane hasn't had a high-end repress since the 2009 AP (KG Master) and that'll cost you 3x as much on the secondary market.
