Today is Alejandro Escovedo's 70th birthday. So, today would be a good day to play some Nuns, Rank & File, True Believers, Buick Mackane, or some of his brilliant solo work.
Getting rejected for a job yesterday after surviving 3 rounds of interviews, spread across the last month, where I spoke with 8 different people has killed off any Christmas spirit I had left. Gonna have to fake it for a few days.
Excited to hear a new St. Vincent album is on the way in a few months. I know the last one was rather polarizing, but her description of the new one sounds like it might have broader appeal. Inspired by 70s Stevie Wonder and Sly & The Family Stone.
Second half of Austin City Limits season announced. I really like how they've handled this season's production given the whole pandemic thing. I'm in for that Allen Toussaint episode. ACL announces 2nd half of Season 46 - Austin City Limits
I thought the new Bee Gees doc on HBO was pretty good overall. I thought the pacing was great...up until the end where they pretty much jumped from the mid-80s to the passing of Andy, Maurice, and Robin. Could've used another 10-15 minutes to at least highlight the 90s and early 00s singles.
I did listen to some new releases this year, but, you wouldn't know it from my 2020 Wrapped info. I guess I leaned hard on older tunes to get me through this pandemic. Honestly though, music simply wasn't as high of a priority this year.
Happy Thanksgiving N&G fam! I’m thankful for this rad community, and I’m also thankful that my copy of “Jesus Hits Like The Atom Bomb” arrived this week unscathed.
Might not be the same with all the PBS stations across the country, but here in the Austin area they are re-airing the Jackie Venson/Mavis Staples episode of Austin City Limits in about 30 minutes. I highly recommend the episode, particularly the Jackie Venson half.
I know the whole Rock and Roll of Fame thing is polarizing for many, but I actually liked the way they handled the virtual induction this year. The HBO production was a nice watch IMO.
