  • Creating a brand new post in the General Music & Vinyl forum about Claudia Thompson and I think it's going to be novel-length by the time I'm finished with it. 😓

If you followed along in the VMP Exclusives thread these past few months, you'll know a lot of the story. But I wanted to have it all down in one place, and... I'll have some new stuff as well, I promise. :D

Also it won’t go up tonight. Probably not tomorrow either. Maybe this weekend?

Yeah, there's a neat story that came together in recent months but it obviously got buried with all the normal VMP chatter/hate that goes on on that thread. To save future jazz historians some trouble and maybe with a bit of SEO luck, I hope to have everything we know put together in one easy-to-find place.
I bought a vinyl soundtrack to a 1950s western movie I have never seen just because of a song from Fallout: New Vegas lol
Any advice on getting a big fat THUMBPRINT out of a record? I did multiple cleanings with my Spin Clean but it's still there and is probably the cause of some record skips. Got the record used so that print could have been there for 40 years, for all I know...
Getting depressed seeing stuff in my Discogs wantlist go from $8 a year ago to $40+ today. Godley and Creme weren't THAT good, people.
Ugh, I'm about to give up on this "left channel too quiet" issue with my turntable. Are record repair services still a thing in TYOOL 2021? I don't know what the fuck azimuth is, I just want the plastic circle thing to make good noises come out of my speaker box.

Imagine the tonearm rolled over such that the side of the cartridge was on the record like it was really sad and tired and you'll have pictured the worst possible azimuth adjustment. I've found it to be really finicky and counterintuitive and just about the only part of turntable calibration I actively dread to do so yeah get a professional to. If you can.
I have the dreaded "one audio channel is noticeably quieter than the other audio channel on my turntable" problem. Pray for me and my sanity.

Our vinyl gods who art in kalax, hallowed be thy wax, thy channels be balanced, thy discs stay flat, in shipping and on my shelf. Give us this day our daily mailer, and forgive us for our dirty grooves, just as we have forgiven the discogs seller who listed as NM.

as @hifiguy says seasonal changes can effect table setup. If you have a loom/manifying glass take close look at the stylus for gook or wear. Also is the problem there with just the table, can you check other sources, your phono stage, etc ?

Yeah, it could be something like two dozen different issues, hence me fearing for my sanity trying to figure it out. I've ruled out the cables and switching from an external pre-amp to the turntable's built-in improved it but didn't eliminate it entirely. Next up: changing out the cartridge and seeing if that makes any difference.
$15 thrift store receiver update: I found some split speaker wires in my closet and got to actually hook it up to my turntable tonight. Sound does indeed come out of it, but I'd be hard-pressed to call it music lol
Also after it was turned on for a few minutes it began to emit a strong, musty aroma, I can only imagine its previous owner was similarly musty.
Next step: buying Deoxit and lots of it.

Was going to use the fire response thing, but didn't want to tempt fate! Good luck with it all.

Must aroma means water damage or storage in a wet basement or garage. TBH with the fire hazard factor I might scrap this one and look for something nicer like a old NAD, Yamaha, Pioneer similiar for 125-150 in record shops or CL.

    Might need some capacitors replaced.
Habitat ReStore find of the day. $15. Now the big question: does it even work?

Never used Deoxit before but this definitely looks like a prime candidate for it. Is there a certain kind or kit that y'all would recommend?

You’ll probably want to get some 90% rubbing alcohol too. Looks like some wicked tar stains on the outside of the case. Inside probably has more of the same.

There’s a vintage equipment thread over in hardware too - you could probably get some good input/ideas/help from that crew.

I quite liked the Village bride. Wasn't a big fan of T0-B1 or Tatooine Rhapsody. I wonder if my opinion will change when I rewatch with English voice actors

I watched mine in Japanese so I dunno if my opinion will change on anything with the English dub. Saw a lot of people praising The Elder which I found to be quite pedestrian… felt like a typical Obi Wan/Anakin style story from the Clone Wars.
Just got shipping for the infamous Pikachu Noticed the Weed vinyl pressing lol
So I went back to get that Gorillaz Demon Days Instrumentals bootleg I mentioned the other day and its $38 price tag suddenly became $54 and I'm going insane trying to figure out if I somehow horribly misread it from the other day or if the shop owner jacked up the price after I left.
