  • Is there a record club that focuses on classic rock? My sister is looking for something for my brother-in-law who just got back into vinyl. She asked my about VNYL but I read through the thread here and it doesn't seem like one I'd recommend.

@duke86fan - for sure, in fact I think I'll take him to a couple of my favorite locals after Xmas. But if my sis is set on the club idea, I won't talk her out of it...I just want to steer her away from any that have been not-so-great for people.

Not traditional by any means, but I've subscribed to the record club started by Alex Rodriguez (Record Safari) this past three months and it's been great. He's known for curating the Coachella record store and for working at the Glass House in Pomona. $30 a month is supposed to get me 3 records but he usually sends extra (this month was five). I don't think he's sent me anything newer than the 90's so far.

You basically tell him what you like and he caters his picks to your tastes. The best stuff he's sent me so far fall under the 70's funk/soul category (which is a genre I didn't know I needed) and I also love this British greatest hits comp he sent me that was from the 60's. He's Recordsafari on Instagram.
Is there a Macbook aficionado around? Wondering if I'll be happy upgrading to a maxed Pro 13" or going for the first level Pro 16". Main purpose is music production, secondary is video editing.

That’s a tough call. It’s really going to depend on your workflow. If you’re using a lot of third party virtual instruments, or will be doing some heavier video work, you may want the extra processing power. You should also take a peek on Amazon and B&H, who typically have refurb models that are a year or two old, if that’s not a big deal to you. You can save a ton.

M1 will come around with updates for applications , but it’s not there yet. Also you have mentioned the limitations with monitors and what it can’t do. I’d say for now intel is the way to go. Most first gen apple products tend to have shorter longevity (looks at iPod , iPad , iPhone, Apple Watch). Now i think the processor will be better supported than hardware product , but that’s the data we have

I think I'm going with the 16" with the 2.6GHz 6-core 9th-generation Intel Core i7 processor. I do enough videos to help make this decision a little easier, and it hopefully means I won't feel the need to upgrade again before half a decade is up.
Diving into David Ramirez's catalog today....this song right here is just wow.

He is my favorite singer songwriter. I swear by the dude, if you don't have any of his vinyl. The Magnolia presents Comps that includes his Strangetown and Rooster EP's is $10 dollars right now. If you put in your email addres on the wheel, you can get a coupon code too.

Thanks @Twentytwo - I saw that in the Online Deals thread and that's what got me listening to DM today. I think I'm jumping on it.

I got my copy of the 2012 release not too long ago and don't remember it being noisy.

Could be that there is actually a new pressing with the same runouts masquerading as the old pressing.

Thanks folks. I think I'll spend a little more time on this. I emailed Speakers Corner and they gave me a list of distributors to check with. It's good to know I can at least get the 2012, and that's certainly a fair price. 🍻

Update - Light in the Attic has the Speakers Corner version of Horses for 35 bucks. I hope it sounds twice as good as the 2012 since it's almost exactly that in price....pulling the trigger.
I like kids, sure, but at work, during a pandemic? Not as much. My boss' wife's sister and her 5-year-old twins are here for lunch. It just doesn't sit well with me. (I'm not alone, several employees are put off)
    Wow....this is great.

Yikes. A tree service destroyed my back yard, dented my tool shed and killed a spruce tree, all in one visit.

Were they a uh, tree destruction service? Because maybe they did a GOOD job. If that's what they do.

Shit @Mather great point, I should look at their card again. And, technically they were there to destroy a tree. Just didn't think a yard a shed and another tree were all part of the deal. So do I owe them more money?

Shopping for Low Boy Beaters - Leather Daddy while at work. It's actually drum gear, but probably fetches mixed results upon googling.
