Audio Hardware Deals: Speakers, Headphones, Turntables, Etc.

There are numerous places that can retip this. I’d recommend Joseph Long aka The Groove Tickler in Connecticut.

I’d set the gain at 46dB and the loading at 47k ohms.

Edit: It will cost $3-400 for a retip. That’s why I bought 2.
Thanks. Says in the listing mounting hardware isn’t included. Should existing mounting hardware work for this or would I be looking at needing a part or two to fit snuggly? Cc: @Joe Mac

What cartridge are you running now? If it’s still the Ortofon you’ll likely need nuts to go with your screws because it doesn’t look like it has a captive thread. If you moved to a Grado gold at any stage you’ll be fine because you’ll already have had to use nuts with the screws to attach that.

Edit: A hardware store should stock the nuts. You’d be looking for nuts for an M2.5 screw.

The LT is a line contact, not a conical. A line contact traces the groove better than a conical or an elliptical and gives better high frequency reproduction as well. A line contact stylus also lasts longer than the other 2 types.
Purchased the LT. Thanks for your insight!

You can also get nuts and bolts on eBay. I got the round nuts with the slot head.

A post from a user that I found-

So anyone who buys one should be aware that the sound will change with some hours on it . So spin some sides and try to keep track of hours and then do the final tweaking after say 15 or so hours at least . But you have already found that out . Mine became really nice and warm after the 15hr mark or so but retained the nice high end , without the harshness . I am sure those with better gear than me will have some more insight . My first one I kept track of the sides played and could swap carts easy on my S arm table so I was able to use the AT155LC as a sort of reference regarding the brightness . I am using budget phono stages and vintage tables so pretty mid fi but does it for me . Plus I have old ears so am no longer a reliable judge of the 15khz and up range

I’ll give it a shot. Been looking for a backup cartridge for once my Mastertracker wears out, and it’s hard to beat the price here.

A high output MC with an advanced profile stylus for the same price as an Ortofon 2m Red. I don’t see a downside.

Well, aside from potential suspension aging issues, yeah. I guess SoundSmith will continue to have my retipping business for a long time yet…
