August 2020 Challenge Thread - The Dog Days of Vinyl Playing

August 18 - Bad Poetry Day (make-up)- Play an album with terrible lyrics. Bonus points for posting your favorite cringe-worthy lyric.

The Postal Service - Give Up

I'm really thinking of one bit in particular from "Nothing Better:"

I will block the door
Like a goalie tending the net
In the third quarter
Of a tied-game rivalry

Why? Because soccer has halves, and hockey has three periods. Lacrosse has quarters, but I don't he means lacrosse, and anyway the fourth quarter world be a much better metaphor for desperate door-blocking, no?

Also, door-blocking is a dick move, bro. Just let her go.

Anyway, love the album, though!

Ha, I forgot about this one - another great example of a pretty dubious sports reference in a classic album.

Day 22: Goin' to the beach!!

I've seen a lot of Jaws vs Covid memes around the internet...

"Ocean Blue" variant

Original movie S/T - the 1975 release was a re-recording.

August 21 - Senior Citizens Day - Play the oldest album in your collection.

Art Tatum - Art Tatum (Capitol Records, 1950 First UK Pressing)

Playing catchup. I THINK this is the oldest record I have (I just searched years in the discogs collection and this seems to be the earliest).

August 23 - Sunday, Sunday - Play an album that puts you in a restful state of mind.

Charles Mingus - The Complete Candid Recordings Of Charles Mingus (Mosaic, 1985 Limited Box Set)

Mingus might not be the most calming jazz musician, but im currently sat here with a coffee, listening to this amazing box set and reading a book. Sunday bliss.
