19th August - Here Comes The Sun

Just realized the word “sun” was in the title which wasn’t intended. I liked their first couple of singles but when the first album was released, I was underwhelmed and I don’t think I’ve ever listened to anything they released after that.

Finally received my copy the 45 RPM 10th anniversary edition reissue and the title fits well with today’s challenge so it seemed like a good time to break it in.

Bees keep the world running so the more flowers the better. Play an album with flowers in the title, theme, or artwork.

In the movie, the killer leaves a red rose after he kills his victims, hence the artwork (those are rose petals falling) and variant naming. It took me a bit to find something for this theme, as I just don't have a lot of releases that have a flower theme, and I've used some others in the past I didn't want to repeat.

The movie is a pretty good slasher, too. Directed by Joseph Zito who did the best of the Friday The 13th movies (Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter) and makeup/effects by Tom Savini. Many of his effects were edited out of international versions. The US Blu-ray from Blue Underground is uncut.

This album was made for “Honey Bee Day” one of The Beach Boys oft overlooked post-Pet Sounds gems where the Boys make a top notch blue-eyed soul album.
