Wildly ambitious.
Liked this one but shy of a favorite.
Guys it's shaping up to be a banger of a year. I didn't think anything was going to knock off Caroline's Desire for my AotY considering it's been there all year but while researching upcoming shows in the Chicago area, I came across a dude who guys by the name of Jitwam... I've spent most of the week binging music while chipping away at Earthbound, tonight that process was aided by an edible. I listened to "Third" twice with a bunch of stuff sprinkled in between listens. I'm in love.
Also, that Billy Woods album has fully clicked. His shit always takes awhile and I never should have given it a first listen in the car. My mistake. And I'm in love with the new Chemical Brothers-- it's become the go-to workout album.
I deleted my list on the other page cause it's gone through a lot of tweaks in recent days. I'll post a new one, limited to a 6x7 Topsters grid at the end of the weekend. But in the meantime, some recent drops I'm really digging
Also, I still need to get to the new Sufjan. It was too mellow for my vibe tonight.
FWIW: Looks like the original version of Third was released last year, and the deluxe edition this year. Figured you might wanna know in case it affects your metric. I've also added it to my queue, but expect it'll take a couple/few days to get to being a holiday weekend with family commitments up this way.
Side note, he's utilizing funk and soul and mixing that with Kaytranada 99.9% style electronic touches. If that sounds up you're alley, def circle back to it when your less busy.
do like Kali and Amaare's new releases, but only just "liked." I wished I could enjoy Janelle's as much as others have professed
Here’s my ten most listened to date, this year:
1. Nickel Creek - Celebrants
2. Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit - Weathervanes
3. Durand Jones - Wait Til I Get Over
4. Angel Bat Dawid - Requien For Jazz
5. Hiss Golden Messenger - Jump for Joy
6. Mighty Poplar - Mighty Poplar
7. Margo Price - Strays
8. Rhiannon Giddens - You’re the One
9. Molly Tuttle & Golden Highway - City of Gold
10. Young Fathers - Heavy Heavy
Shit Talk is a pretty remarkable track, thoNew Sufjan is really good but I don't think it's AOTY material for me. I fucking LOVE Sufjan but it's missing something really special. It's also quite short for a Sufjan album. All Delighted People was an "EP" and it's 59 minutes. This one comes in at 42 minutes. Carrie & Lowell was 43 minutes. Carrie & Lowell was phenomenal because it was a uniform idea (mourning the death of his mother) and mostly the same style musically. The new one is a little more scattered sound-wise, not much, but a little more. It's like an amalgam of all his albums combined. It'll probably be top 5 for me at the end of the year, but I had high hopes it might take the #1 spot. It has not done that (yet).
oh yeah! it's not bad in any stretch of the imagination. I think it just made me wanting more.Shit Talk is a pretty remarkable track, tho

LOL
I've been skipping the Swans tracks on my '23 playlist every time they come on. To Be Kind blew my mind and there were moments on The Glowing Man, but nothing subsequent has hit for me.LOL
I was looking at the bottom of the list when I posted this update and thought "a lot of these albums I don't really like that much" the Swans one most of all. I should probably just remove the ones I haven't liked (Shame, Squid, Fucked Up). They're honestly all okay albums but nothing special.
LOL

The Beggar is good. But that is it. It is merely good, which is not good enough for Swans. Isn't (and won't be) in my yearend top50.I've been skipping the Swans tracks on my '23 playlist every time they come on.
