I keep remaking my list, and then deleting it again, and then forgetting to backup my stuff and swapping operating systems and here we are once again with what I guess is my best of 2023 list up to this point!

The Nation of Language from a few months ago is clicking with me now. I picked up my third copy of it over the weekend - the previous two had a ton of non-fill in them (that beading that causes the dreaded brrrrzt sound during playback) and were promptly returned. I dropped by one of the excellent Montreal record shops over the weekend - Atom Heart. They had a copy on clear vinyl. My previous two were on black. After a bit of chatting with the owner I decided to give this clear vinyl copy a try (I forgot to add this to my Fresh Grab photo in the other thread - oops). Anyway, it's flawless! Sounds fantastic too - way better than the digital version I've been listening to (the bass has more depth throughout, giving the music better balance). Anyway, glad to be finally adding this to my vinyl collection. Will likely creep up higher on my 2023 top 50 too, because it will get more airtime.

Yeah there are no Beyonces or Kendrick’s this year who are the obvious number 1. I feel like maybe Boygenius or Olivia Rodrigo will be the number 1 on AOTY but I can’t imagine either of them running away with it

The new Aesop Rock has me very happy. His best since 2016's The Impossible Kid.

I struggle with a 4th on my Rushmore because there are so many options and careers still in motion (ala Tyler & Danny Brown) but Outkast, Kendrick and Aesop Rock's place on it are chisled in rock.
