What are your favorite January releases that are not listed above? I wanna be thorough this year. I've got a spreadsheet going and everything!
Some great albums on this list 😉

January is usually my time to not think about new music but that was really hard this year with so many big hitters dropping that month. And February is coming out of the gate strong so I already have alot to listen to in order to catch up.

Only 2022 album ive really spent time with has been Mitski. Amazing how it may be her weakest Dead Oceans release but itll still make my top 10 at the end of the year because its still great

Agreed on what you said about Jan and Feb! But it seems early to already have a top 10 pick solidified, eh? 😉

Oh you arent wrong but given past experience if an artist I love puts out an album thats a 70 or better itll most likely hit top 10 for me (Paramore in 2013, FJM in 2018, US Girls in 2020, Lana del rey in 2021 etc.). No saying its guaranteed but I feel its a safe bet for me lol

Just curious, how does a given album get a rating of a 70 or better from you? How does your rating scale work? Are there certain attributes you rate on?

My personal breakdown is (i go in multiples of 5s)

100 : Perfect Album
80 - 95: A great album that I love
70/75: Great album but cant say i necessarily love it
50 - 65: Flawed album but I still enjoy it in some ways
40/45: Bad album with some redeeming qualities
25 - 35: Dont like at all but not bad enough to call trash
0 - 25: I hate it

I have a hard time personally talking about technical aspects of albums so this is all based on my enjoyment. An album could be technically perfect but if i dont find myself enjoying my experience ill bump the score down a bit.

Thanks for sharing! I think it's interesting how each person, albeit having some similarities, has a slightly different approach to ranking albums 🤔
