Ch Ch Ch Changes! - David Bowie Talk

Quality seems superb. No visual flaws, all records completely flat except a little wobble in Buddah of Suburbia I put in to flatten. Been a while since I've seen so many visually flawless records. Nice!

Also, if anyone cares, I would have saved an additional $5 if I bought today - C$378 now. Wasn't sure how much lower it could go, so I pulled the trigger. Box 4 is actually selling for more right now. That one is so weird - I was waiting for it to drop below $200 when it was hovering around $230-$240 a few years back, now it's always over $300. But boxes #2 and #3 could still be had for good prices.

Quick comment as I begin spinning some of these. I remember quite liking Black Tie White Noise when it came out. Pretty much my first Bowie album after getting the Changesbowie comp. I liked Bowie before, growing up in the 80's, but mostly as a Video artist. I started paying more attention with Tin Machine of all things.

Anyway, while I played Black Tie White Noise back then, I never revisited it much. All this to say I'm enjoying this spin quite a bit right now. Some great horns on this.

The records I was less enthused about in this set are Outside and Earthling. Played those a lot too back then but I always felt they didn't age well. Will be interesting to see if that impression still holds. That said, Outside still has one of my favorite Bowie tracks in Strangers When We Meet.

My head was way too straight for this light show. Way overpriced but still glad I captured it.
Predictably, nothing off Outside or Earthling!
Ugh - static and mic artifacts. I bought new ones but just leery about taking them out just yet with all the traveling I want to do. I am way too hard on these. Crammed in my pocket for long bus ride, crammed into my hiding spot even before ticket shopping so I can be ready to go right in or in this case, just running the 8 blocks to my bus stop so I can catch the next bus without being stuck on the street for another hour.

Thanks I will grab it and give it a listen.

Ziggy 50th Anniversary - Half-Speed master. Plus there is another picture disc version coming out as well.

No pressing details. Unless it is looking to be an amazing pressing, I don't need another copy.
It's so hard to know whether or not to jump on this. His stuff sells out so fast to begin with, do I grab this while the gettin' is good? I know it's probably sacrilege, but Ziggy is probably a middle-tier Bowie record for me, however, I have the 2020 pressing, which has problems. Will this be any better? UGH!!!!!!

My guess is this will be available in a lot of places. There is no language on the webpage that sounds like it is exclusive to Bowie/Warners stores like the live series from 2020.

If it is Abbey Road doing the Half-Speed mastering, my guess it will be a hi-res digital edition.

Edit: Just noticed there is an obi on the 50th. Says it is from hi-res transfer of original tapes.

"This new pressing of THE RISE AND FALL OF ZIGGY STARDUST AND THE SPIDERS FROM MARS was cut on a customized late Neumann VMS80 lathe with fully recapped electronics from 192kHz restored masters of the original Trident Studios master tapes, with no additional processing on transfer. The half speed was cut by John Webber at AIR Studios."

...and ordered.

I've long had a bootleg copy of Toy, plus I've got the version that came in the Brilliant Adventure box, but I didn't pick up the Toy box set because it just seemed like overload.

But... I was listening to the RSD Toy EP last night, and kinda loved it. The piano and vocal version of "Shadow Man" alone was worth it, and I really liked the live takes of "Can't Help Thinking About Me," "I Dig Everything," and "The London Boys."

Does anyone here have the Toy 10" box, and if so, would you recommend it?
I have it, but have not listened to it. I don’t own any copies of it, so I grabbed it from Amazon when it was $62. Currently priced at ~$75. The reviews look good on Discogs.
