Choose Your Own Adventure - The October 2024 Spin Challenge

15-Oct On this date in 2006, Patti Smith closes down the celebrated Manhattan music club CBGB, playing the last show at the venue. The club closes after an extended dispute between club owner Hilly Kristal and the Bowery Residents Committee. Rock fans try to preserve the building as a historical landmark, but those efforts fail and a men's clothing store moves in. Expert: Play a musician/band who boycotts playing in Israel in protest of the Palestinian occupation.

Declan Macmanus cancelled shows in Israel in support of Palestinians...

Day 15

Since I happen to be listening to one of the 6,000 signatories of the Musicians for Palenstine Letter AND the likelihood of anyone else playing this record for the challenge today is pretty small, might as well knock this one out-

When I was in Ireland over the summer I did a Black Cab tour in Belfast that took us through both the Protestant and Catholic neighborhoods that were the epicenter for the 'troubles'. It was eye opening for me as someone who viewed it from afar as it was happening to see it through the eyes of people that lived through it (and continue to do so). My daughter who didn't have as much historical context picked up on the correlation and kinship the Catholics in Belfast feel with the Palestinans. Well worth doing if you ever make it that way.

That's a bit of a preamble for todays spin. Fontaines D.C. (from Dublin) cancelled a gig in Istanbul because the company that sponsored the venue has holdings in Israel.

Roger Waters - Amused To Death
